Background

BXB Wolsingham Ltd is a joint venture between the current land owner and BXB Land Solutions Limited. BXB Ltd is an SME development company that specialises in delivering brownfield and contaminated land to the UK development sector, by bringing redundant industrial land back into productive use.

Their strong track record has seen secure the delivery of 220 acres of brownfield land, 2,300 units of new homes, 232 units of social housing and 1,500 sq ft of commercial space.

As specialists in their field, BXB and their project team have the skills and expertise to bring the site back to productive use for the benefit of the local community.

Working in partnership with the public sector and local stakeholders is at the core of BXB’s approach and discussions with key public sector partners have already taken place.

Work is now underway to gain a complete picture of the site’s constraints, opportunities and an understanding of the market’s requirements in this part of County Durham. Sites of this type are challenging and delivering a clean site that is economically viable will be a key measure of overall success.

The Site

Wolsingham Ironworks was founded in 1864 and was a major employer in the area for a century and a half. The site produced high grade steel for ship building and munitions, using the very finest Weardale ore.
